Whether it was the Orbiters enhancing something she already had or something new creeping into her system, Jessica Jones was now capable of more than just 'falling with style'. Her morning with Clark and how well that had gone (/sarcasm) was making her a little concerned about having to leave the house. As to what that meant to others?

They might come across a scowling woman clutching onto a doorway. Or a tree. Or maybe she's reached out and grabbed someone -- perhaps a little too hard? Anyone noticing this might also notice that during these times, her feet might not always touch the ground, and if she's grabbed onto someone, that someone might feel an odd upward tug.

God help anyone that makes her jump. She'll remember you. She'll owe you.

He shakes his head.

"My default is to be down. But it is tied to my emotions, though in a different way from the heat vision." His lips curve in a crooked grin. "If I'm laughing too hard, I have to make sure I keep my feet on the ground."

He looks her up and down.

"I would bet that you'll be the same way. You're probably just floating like this because your body isn't used to the change yet. Like how you keep moving a limb when you're trying to get feeling back into it."

...from what he's heard. He's never had it happen.

Wow, rude, Clark. Everyone should experience the old 'flopping my arm into my face after I woke up from sleeping on it ow, that was my nose'. She raised one skeptical brow at him. "Guess I'm not going to have to worry about floating away once I figure out what the fuck I'm doing."

Translation: Jessica didn't laugh.

[apricitous]

"No, you probably won't," he admits, though he's not translating it quite the same.

A few more flexes, back and forth, before he looks to her.

"Anything catching?"

[assholic]

"It's a little like you're holding a battery up to me and it's tingling. Like there's some place that's... reacting. But it's like telling me I need to learn how to digest my food faster just by thinking about it."

[apricitous]

He nods, taking that in, before considering what to do next.

"All right," he says finally, "I'm going to let go of your gravity completely. Then I'm going to slowly start forcing you to the ground. Try and stay afloat, all right?"

[assholic]

"What? No. I don't want to stay afloat. I want anti-floating. No floating. I vote no on floating." She gripped his hand tightly, having let go with the other and just holding him there, like if he let go, she might start lifting up like a pissed off balloon again.

Except she didn't feel like she had before. She felt like she usually did, so maybe it was 'off'. Maybe it would stay off. Maybe...

Well, he hadn't let go yet. So it was hard to say.

"I understand," still calm, still gentle, and he even turns to look her in the eyes. She's close enough that she can probably see the small spot in the left one, the touch of heterochromia at the top of his iris.

"But we need to help you find a way to control this yourself. If you find the on button, you've also found the off button. Are you willing to try it?"

... Stop trying to distract her with pretty eyes while being mostly naked, Clark. It was working. She was only human, after all. She hadn't noticed that fleck before, but hey, while he was there, he could discover her central heterochromia; green eyes with brown rings around the pupil. She might argue that blue was prettier-- but stop distracting her, Clark.

She was holding his hand harder than she'd hold anyone else's out of a fear of hurting them, but he was someone she couldn't hurt. That made him safe. Taking in a deep breath, she looked over at him, then down at her feet. The ground was so close, a nice safe distance away. But he was there and she trusted that he'd grab her if she started lifting off again. A nod, and then a deep breath. "Yeah, let's get this over with."

He'd have seen that from the first; people's eyes are where he always looks, because there's always so much to be found there. Hers are lovely. It reminds him of trees and growing things.

"You can do this," he reminds her as he lets go completely.

[assholic]

She'd laugh if he ever told her that. Laugh and tell him he was full of shit. She was the antithesis of life and growing things. She was death and pain and... no.

He lets go and it's a little anticlimactic. She's just standing there, looking over at him, wondering if she'd dreamed the whole thing or if this was some kind of a joke. "I think it's over. Whatever it is." Denial, it was a hell of a drug.

"Or you desperately want to stay on the ground and you've learned enough to keep yourself there," he offers in contrast.

[assholic]

"Why would you do that? Why would you ruin a good thing? Jesus. Now I'm going to be worried I'm going to float off all the time." Scowl.

[apricitous]

He thinks of an answer and decides against it on the grounds of just being unhelpfully terrifying. So he presses his lips together and sighs a little.

"I'm not trying to ruin anything. But I remember what it was like to have new powers pop up at different times. And I don't think you want to be surprised again."

[assholic]

"No, I do not. Can't I just carry a rock with me? Or... fuck." Nope. This was going to ruin everything. She wasn't going to make Clark her lackey, but she knew she was going to be having an issue whenever she'd have to leave the house. And she would be leaving the house. Clark was 'friendly'. Those friends came over. Jessica was not friendly.

He holds up a hand.

"We've got the emergency situation under control." He breathes in, then out, and offers her what he hopes is a comforting smile.

"How about we both get dressed, I'll make some breakfast, and then we'll try and figure out how it works so you'll have some control?"

The mention of clothes reminded her that they were both half-dressed, and she couldn't quite stop the glance down at him, then back up, one brow arching and her mouth opening.

She shut it with a snap. The least she could do after he'd rescued her floating ass was keep her mouth shut. "Right. Go cover your shame." She'd just pull on jeans and that was dressed enough for her, which meant that unless he super-sped, she'd beat him out into the kitchen and be pouring herself coffee.

The breakfast of champions.

There's just a low huff and an eyeroll before he offers a bow of his head and heads out, and while he won't be zipping out Flash-style, he does use some of his speed to dry off at the very least. He comes out in a t-shirt and jeans and heads for the stove to start on the eggs.

Hey, it wasn't like he had anything to be ashamed of. It was an expression, Kansas boy. And she liked making him squirm.

She sat at the table, cupping her cup in her hands and sipping slowly. "None for me. I'm not hungry." Besides, if she was going to be floating, she didn't want to wind up throwing up all over the place.

He only cracks one egg, but he holds up the bread to see if she at least wants some toast. He'll put in a couple of slices regardless of what she says; it's not as if he can't eat them anyway if she doesn't want them.

Shaking her head, she held up her mug. "I'm good." Caffeine and anger. That's pretty much all that kept her going. She was fueling up on one and debating on how long the other would stay quiet.

He shrugs and keeps cooking his own breakfast, eventually plating it and turning to lean against the counter as he smushes his toast into the yellows of the eggs.

Her nose wrinkles and she buries it in her coffee as she takes another sip. Eww. Egg yolks. That's gross.

That he pointedly ignores, because this is delicious, thank you very much, especially with freshly buttered toast. Om nom nom.

Toast, yes. Runny egg-snot, no. Coffee? Definitely yes. Just woken up or not, she had a strong urge to ask him to grab the bottle in the cupboard to add to her drink. She figured she'd earned non-judgementalism from her morning jaunt. "You know this is bullshit, right? Randomly floating?"

He looks up from his breakfast and raises an eyebrow. In what sense?
