Who: vax'ildan (hraefnes) & james potter (heorot) & others What: catch-all for log things for december! When: month of december Where: all over Warning(s):
[ the energy from the two of them buzzes through the cockpit, like sparks filling the air. vax realizes, a bit belatedly, that the excitement and adrenaline feels almost cyclical - like it passes through him, into vex, then through his sister, and back to him.
he goes about the right steps, hits the right preparatory buttons, and then he hears vex's voice.
and nothing happens.
vax laughs - the sound weightless and happy - before checking over his own machine. ]
No, not yet- wait- [ he pushes a last button, and the machine jumps, rising up out of the docking station hesitantly. ] And we're back.
Pay no attention to her pouting at you, Vax, even if you can likely sense it across the artifical link built to weave together thoughts and emotions within the confines of the pilot's bridge.
But even beneath that is a far more eager feeling, that longing to fly, an ephemeral joy to counter the uncomfortable edges clouded by their stuck circumstance. Vax flips switches, presses buttons, and there's a delighted hiss from his sister as the vessel rocks, then begins to pull free, following whatever eddies buoy it in space. ]
There we go. Easy does it. Once we're clear of the docking ring..
[ he's not laughing at her. just. laughing. considering how it's not really a him and a her situation. it is them, together, in this machine. he's laughing at himself in equal breaths, and that's okay, because it'll work. it always works.
something about this suddenly feels lighter, and with the right switches, the right buttons, the machine is lifting off. that light feeling keeps up, slowly and slowly. ]
I think the next bit will be on you, stubby. [ with each rising second, vax feels the excitement build. he knows there's more of a purpose to this - they're supposed to be training to fight, training to protect - but it's been so long that he's been without his wings that this? here? is enough to make him feel weightless again. ]
[ She can still feel that laughter, but it is genuine joy, her own bubbling emotions expressed by her brother too. Some might say this shouldn't work, they are atfer all two bastard othlir.
Two heroes, champions of Vox Machina, and beloved, badass twins.
She glances over at her brother as the gravity decreases and the ship moves as they command. Yeah, they totally got this. ]
I'm ready. Keep your hands on the reins there, brother. [they cannot turn on the speed until they're far clear of the "moon" and its rings, and have to watch for fellow flyers out here in the darkest reaches of the sky. Shifting attention from sibling to the view screen, then to the control panel before her, Vex reaches and slides a single dial.] On my mark, we can unfurl this beauty's wings, and see what she can really do for us.
[ all of it seems a bit impossible, looking at the two of them you'd never guess half the shit they've gotten into. half the lives they've saved. heroes of vox machina, lady of the grey hunt and champion of the raven queen. it's got to be a bit impossible, really, and yet here they are.
pilots of an impossible vessel. asked to do impossible things.
that light, airy happiness holds true as the ship continues to float, and he can feel vex turn to the screen, reach for the dial. it thrums in him like a kind of electricity, and his fingers curl tightly around the controls. ]
2...[ he's not worried, really. doesn't have a second's thought that vex will hesitate, or they'll miss their mark. he feels his heart rate in time with her's, and he can't wait to feel it through the ship, too. ]
[ After everything else they’ve done, everything else they’ve lived through that they shouldn’t have (and didn’t, in one case), it is only natural that they say as they’ve said to doubters, to the world, to fate itself before:
Fuck the impossible.
Go! A word that sings in heart, echoed aloud by her brother, and the ship responds. Slipping from sluggish to streamlined, it sweeps forwards the open space before them, passing through the parted gate as though it’s humanoid burdens and metal body were as light as a feather. Before them, a sea of endless lights, the stars seemingly infinite, and for a moment Vex is transfixed.
Then, a slow, steady turn, as her hands press dials and draw back on the controls. Time to bank this baby and bring her around to face the planet. ]
[ the worst of it is the feeling of that thought - what they shouldn’t have lived through, plus something more - vax almost chases after it. almost. but then there’s the go and the movement of the ship and everything else falls to the wayside.
breaking just out of the bay gives them their first sight of the expanse of space around them. vex is transfixed by it, and vax feels it - a sense of awe, feeling small and large all at once - but the feeling doesn’t stick around for all that long. before they even know what’s happening, their hands are moving. hitting the right buttons, preparing the right engines.
vex lets out a breath, something between a sigh and a laugh, before allowing himself another chance to glance over at his sister. he doesn’t need to say it, doesn’t need to count down. one look to catch each other’s eyes and they know.

I guess we'll find out.
