[For as much as it feels like things have finally settled down, perhaps it's only that he's finally settled into a routine. The tension in the city is strongly apparent, and it's clear the Olympians are likely looking for a war to wipe the mud off their face after lowering themselves so much to seek help from Wyver. There's still a lot he doesn't know about the ancient fued between the cities, but as a natural-born hellraiser, he doesn't feel any uneasiness about the prospect of an upcomming war. Much as he would prefer the tension of a cold war versus an all-out bloodbath, as long as there was something to keep him entertained, he didn't really mind what the people here chose to do.]

[With so many people taking advantage of the mounts, it's fair to assume some will be crossing paths with one another at some point, even if they initially set out alone. But given the nature of this world, it was best to stick together, right? And who better to go on a dangerous expedition with than the all-powerful magician, Johann Faust! Which is how he'll be introducing himself to most people he meets. But just where are they going? And what will they see?? Well...]

[On the edge of a forest near the furthest outskirts of Olympia bordering Wyver, an oddly nostalgic bird call sounds through the air. And should they follow the sound, they'll eventually come across a rather odd sight: Mephisto, sitting on the ground with an odd expression on his face, looking thoroughly perplexed. He doesn't appear to have any supplies on him, nor are there any signs of his mount being around. But more than that, he looks just a bit worse for the wear: his clothes and hair not quite dirty, but definitely more out of sorts than usual. The only thing he has is his phone, closed and held tightly in one hand.]
[He won't call out nor even respond when approached -- not even to attempts at calling to him right to his face. But should someone decide to take the extra step and give him a bit of a nudge, he'll slowly look up at them blankly, his eyes lacking any sign that he recognizes them.] ...what day is it today?

A. Simwe Institute | OTA
[As a professor of Magic at the insitute, it's not uncommon to find Mephisto giving lectures or offering advice to students -- all under the name Johann Faust, of course. Even those not enrolled who might be interested in some good conversation can easily find him in his office, organizing research notes or conducting little experiments. And if you're lucky (???), you might just find yourself being pulled right into one!]
Oh, good timing! Would you might lending me a hand for a moment?
B. Red Light | OTA 18+
[What sort of demon would he be if he didn't indulge in a little sin now and again? As fun as Wyver's little moon festival had been, he can't deny the allure of a red light district, bringing in beautiful people, good drinks, and quiet dealings of the less scrupulous sort. The people were more honest with their malice towards Wyver once the drinks started to flow, but all it took were a few carefully placed words to placate them into changing the subject into something lighter and more fun.]
[Still, despite being a somewhat regular here, he's not the sort to go around buying services either. He prefers a chase after, all. Which is what has him sliding into a seat next to someone who appears alone -- whether they're a fellow patron or an employee.] Care for a drink? It's rather lonely to be here, drinking by one's self.

A. Mushrooms of Madness | Murkwell Hallow | OTA
[Catching a bit of respite under a giant 20-foot tall mushroom? Sounds safe. It's starting to rain overhead, though judging by the wind, it shouldn't last long -- which is a good thing, seeing as they'll need to leave the Hallow before sunset if they want to ride back on their mounts! For his part, Mephisto has been wearing a face mask this whole time -- though he'll pull it down once the rain starts.] Ahh, I can't say I've ever been so relieved to see a bit of rain! My allergies are acting up quite terribly around here.
[But this isn't just any mushroom. It's a mushroom of madness, prone to giving off spores that can cause mutual hallucinations powerful enough to render one unable to tell the difference between fiction and reality! ...but surely the rain means it shouldn't be as potent, right?]

Oh my, it seems you've been caught! [And just look at how worried Mephisto looks... or rather, how worried he doesn't look, inspecting the tree that has somehow captured up some poor unsuspecting travelor -- tearing them right off their mount, whch proceeded to flee off into the distance without them. Mephisto hops off his own mount, a beautiful white pegasus, and stands with his hand on his chin as he inspects the situation.]
Pray tell, are you familiar with this variety of creeping vine? You see, I'm afraid there's only one way to save you from it.

[But the local flora aren't the only thing they need to be worrying around here. There are plenty of dangerous animals to be found as well, some of which might just be hostile... but as much as they needed to tread carefully, Mephisto doesn't look too concerned. Even as the sound of something rustling in the nearby bushes catches their attention.] Hmm, do you suppose it's friendly? Shall we go take a look?
[Will this be a good idea or a terrible one? Feel free to pick the location and/or the creature, and I'll RNG the rest!]

[Said flatly, suspiciously. Just... what was this... Is this real life? What was she supposed to do???]
no subject
...no. I have the faintest feeling that you're someone I know, but I'm not sure whether that's true, or whether it's simply because you're the only person I can recall speaking with, however briefly.
no subject
[she expects the look over since that's just his MO. But this is all very concerning, and this is not something that she's ever had to handle before? Sure, probably some minor memory loss with humans, but not someone like Mephisto??]
You need to get some rest or something. Sleeping might jog your memory.
[If it was something stress related, then that might do the trick. And if it wasn't, then Shura would get some time to make a plan. The question was, just where was he going to sleep?? Shura had no idea where he lived, and like hell was she bringing him back to her place...]
no subject
Or hungry, for that matter.
[...well, surely if he can't remember anyone or anything or who he even is, naturally he'd forget that he's a demon and doesn't really need the same amount of maintenance as a human. But he doesn't sound concerned, so much as just baffled.]
no subject
[Shura didn't really want to know what he did during all of those waking hours. He was up to no good, obviously.]
But unless you wanna wander around all night, you should find somewhere and at least try. Someone like you is bound to get in trouble like this.
[just listen to her, okay??]
no subject
[I mean, Shura's basically asking for this--]
I don't mean to impose, but... could I stay with you?
Even if I don't remember you, it's strange, but... when I look at you, I feel oddly at ease. I wonder why.
[Gross demon cooties... but no, it's mostly because of the vague familiarity on top of some semblance of trust.]
no subject
[No way in hell is was she really means. It might be different if he was clearly injured or hurt on top of this supposed memory loss, but no. She wasn't going to bring Mephisto to her and Rin's home, that would be way too much trouble.]
I'll take you to a hotel, and I'll get your lunch, but there's no way you're staying at my place.
[This is a good time to grab him by the arm and start marching him off to whatever inn is nearby. She does not have time for demon cooties, okay]
no subject
[He seems fine with this -- and is pulled around entirely too easily. He probably would get in trouble while like this, and maybe even more so than usual.]
[But for all that he may not have a clue as to who he is, he's not stupid. This woman hates him, doesn't she? And yet she's doing all of this for him... when he remembers her, he'll have to do something to make up for things! ...whatever those things are!! (Impossible tbh)]
[At the very least, she won't have to pay for a room for him. After a moment of searching, he finds that he does have money, and is able to pay for a small room for himself.]
I really do appreciate all of this, Miss... oh. You never did tell me your name.
no subject
Kirigakure. [no she does not want to hear her first name from his mouth.]
If you're really that grateful, then stay here and try to get some sleep. I'll get you something to snack on, but don't go off wandering trying jus' cause you're bored.
[Just... sleep. Seriously. Try really, really hard to sleep. Surely, that would help. Shit, should she check him for a concussion? ... nah. She's done plenty enough as is, and he wasn't exhibiting any other warning signs.]
no subject
[Said with a slight bow -- so polite! It's probably still really weird. Almost makes you wonder whether this is his true nature, or if his memories are simply scrambled in such a way that he doesn't remember how he should be acting.]
[Unfortunately, it won't be any less weird when she comes back.]
[At some point in the time she was gone, he managed to find the charging cord for his phone in one of his pockets and plug it in. Naturally, curiosity over what he forgot won out over listening to her and getting some sleep. He only got as far as taking off his coat before he found himself rather distracted--]
[Which is what she's going to walk in on: Mephisto hunched over on the edge of the bed, staring down at his phone with a look on his face she would have never seen before.]
no subject
She doesn't stay out for very long; her goal is to get something quick and cheap. Taste wasn't important, though he'll luck out and get sweet flavored buns of some kind. He liked sugar, right?? This would be good enough. She doesn't notice the expression he's wearing when she returns, too busy setting aside the bottle of juice and buns to realize that something might be amiss.]
There's this--eat it, even if you're not hungry. I don't know when you last ate, but--
[She trails off when she does look over to him on the bed. That's not a good face. Shura doesn't like it. Her brow knits together with some vague concern. If this was just him watching some stupid anime, she was going to be hard pressed not to throw the second bun still in her hand at his head.]
no subject
...Miss Kirigakure. May I ask you something?
[Despite his expressions, his voice doesn't sound very different from usual. As if there's some kind of bizarre dissonance preventing them from syncing.]
I understand now that you and I weren't at all close... but did I ever mention anyone to you? Anyone who might have been important in my life here?
no subject
whelp, he's asking anyway. Just what kind of question was that? Shura had trouble with her own feelings on a good day, and now he was asking her about his? She shifts her weight, setting down the last of her things.]
Your spy's here. [Or was--Shura hasn't tried contacting Shima in a minute] You mentioned a Mipha. [not going to mention that she met mipha] Besides that, you didn't tell me much.
[And Shura didn't ask. She enjoyed maintaining some degree of plausible deniability when it came to him.]
no subject
[Without looking back up at her, he gestures with his phone before tossing it back on the bed with a sigh.] It seems I've programmed this to delete any sent and received messages automatically, and all the names are stored in code. Aside from a few field notes, there's only a handful of messages saved on it. And all the other folders are password protected.
I may not remember why it is you seem to dislike me so, but honestly I'm not very fond of myself right now either.
no subject
Don't worry about that. It's probably locked up like that because you're playing games and seeing how long you can maintain your little Faust identity.
[Now that his hands are free, Shura can shove a bun in his hand, standing back and placing her hands on her hips. She's not going to talk about her feelings towards him, nope. He'll remember that and use it for blackmail later.]
C'mon, eat that. There's some juice or something and another bun. Even if you aren't hungry, choke it down before you go to sleep. You probably just overworked yourself.
[listen to shura she's kinda a doctor]
no subject
...no. I do know what happened to me now, at least.
[He did mention field notes, after all. Those, he was able to read.]
I was researching a certain medicinal plant that's supposed to grow near the borders of Olympia. But according to the notes I left, that's also where a certain creature called a Minnu is known to nest.
It would seem they release a toxin that can cause bouts of amnesia... though I can't imagine simply crossing paths with one or two would cause such drastic memory loss.
no subject
I don't know what those are or what you were doing, but I wouldn't be surprised if you got distracted by something or other. You can get obsessive like that.
[But now he has food, something to drink, somewhere to sleep, and a place to charge his phone. This was good enough, right? Shura gives the room one last look over. Yeah, he was going to be fine.]
I gotta get going. I'll be back in the morning to check in on you--if you suddenly remember everything, just send me a message sayin' so.
[time to beat a quick exit if she can!!]
no subject
--please wait!
[With a voice that might sound a bit more flustered than someone like Mephisto would normally deign to show, he turns back towards her -- his expression looking rather concerned to match. But just as before, it won't last, and he makes an attempt to downplay it before he speaks again.]
I realize I have no right to ask this of you. But truthfully, I don't want to be alone with my thoughts right now.
Could you... stay?
no subject
no
the answer is no
Or at least that's what the answer should be. No?? She did plenty for him by finding him someplace safe to stay and getting him dinner. Her hand hovers above the doorknob, the internal struggle waging in her head making it hard to make the decision one way or the other.
In the end, Shura isn't cruel enough. Her shoulders drop as she sighs. Damn it. She was getting sentimental over a demon.]
Fine. But only until you fall asleep. And you better be trying to rest after you're done eating. I got to get back to Rin.
[rin and his little yappy dog monster... He was old enough to take care of himself, but after everything that had happened, she felt a little more protective than normal.
With that, she'll cross the room to sit on the bed, stretching her arms up over her head.]
You're going to owe me for this, you know.
no subject
[He looks notably relieved when she agrees to stay, shoulders relaxing. He'll eat the rest of the bun and maybe have a bit of juice before -- just as she told him to -- laying back and making an attempt at sleep.]
[...not that he looks tired at all. His eyes occasionally flicker over to his phone, but he fights the urge to pick it up again.]
I wonder if it's starting to wear off. I feel as though I can remember a few things... but it all feels rather disjointed.
[A couple thousand years of memories slowly trickling in -- it's really no wonder he can't sleep.]
no subject
But since he's behaving, Shura will just keep herself busy, diddling around on her phone, making plans for the next day. Thinking. Damn it, she doesn't like thinking right now. There was a whole lot to take care of as things were and if Yukio woke up any time soon--
Ugh.
She's almost grateful for when he interrupts her train of thought, turning her head to give him a vague disinterested look.]
I'm sure until it's all back in place that it'll be hard to make heads or tails of it.
[It must be hard to keep track of thousands of years of plotting! She hopes it gives him a headache.]
no subject
[Well, hopefully Shura won't mind him talking, since he did say he didn't want to be alone with his thoughts. And that meant avoiding the silence.]
I've recalled enough to surmise just what I am now... or at least enough to assume I must not be human. I've been alive for a very long time, haven't I?
[...]
And yet for some reason, I think I remember dying.
It seems it was rather unpleasant.
[He says this too casually??]
no subject
[How many bodies had he used throughout his existence? Shura didn't want to even try guessing.]
And it prolly was something bad. It ain't like you would go die a quiet death.
[Shura doesn't know all of the secrets of the Ba'al, but she knows well enough what kind of a strain that kind of immense power would have on a human body.]
You're the kind of person who pisses other people off, so that might have somethin' to do with it, too.
no subject
No, I don't think it was anything like that. [Not gonna refute it though, he's starting to remember being kind of an asshole.] ...an illness, perhaps? That's what it looked like.
