[For as much as it feels like things have finally settled down, perhaps it's only that he's finally settled into a routine. The tension in the city is strongly apparent, and it's clear the Olympians are likely looking for a war to wipe the mud off their face after lowering themselves so much to seek help from Wyver. There's still a lot he doesn't know about the ancient fued between the cities, but as a natural-born hellraiser, he doesn't feel any uneasiness about the prospect of an upcomming war. Much as he would prefer the tension of a cold war versus an all-out bloodbath, as long as there was something to keep him entertained, he didn't really mind what the people here chose to do.]
[But for the time being at least, he does have a few chosen haunts where he tends to make an appearance--]

[With so many people taking advantage of the mounts, it's fair to assume some will be crossing paths with one another at some point, even if they initially set out alone. But given the nature of this world, it was best to stick together, right? And who better to go on a dangerous expedition with than the all-powerful magician, Johann Faust! Which is how he'll be introducing himself to most people he meets. But just where are they going? And what will they see?? Well...]
3 | A mind is a terrible thing to waste | Outskirts of Olympia | OTA
[On the edge of a forest near the furthest outskirts of Olympia bordering Wyver, an oddly nostalgic bird call sounds through the air. And should they follow the sound, they'll eventually come across a rather odd sight: Mephisto, sitting on the ground with an odd expression on his face, looking thoroughly perplexed. He doesn't appear to have any supplies on him, nor are there any signs of his mount being around. But more than that, he looks just a bit worse for the wear: his clothes and hair not quite dirty, but definitely more out of sorts than usual. The only thing he has is his phone, closed and held tightly in one hand.]
[He won't call out nor even respond when approached -- not even to attempts at calling to him right to his face. But should someone decide to take the extra step and give him a bit of a nudge, he'll slowly look up at them blankly, his eyes lacking any sign that he recognizes them.] ...what day is it today?

A. Simwe Institute | OTA
[As a professor of Magic at the insitute, it's not uncommon to find Mephisto giving lectures or offering advice to students -- all under the name Johann Faust, of course. Even those not enrolled who might be interested in some good conversation can easily find him in his office, organizing research notes or conducting little experiments. And if you're lucky (???), you might just find yourself being pulled right into one!]
Oh, good timing! Would you might lending me a hand for a moment?
B. Red Light | OTA 18+
[What sort of demon would he be if he didn't indulge in a little sin now and again? As fun as Wyver's little moon festival had been, he can't deny the allure of a red light district, bringing in beautiful people, good drinks, and quiet dealings of the less scrupulous sort. The people were more honest with their malice towards Wyver once the drinks started to flow, but all it took were a few carefully placed words to placate them into changing the subject into something lighter and more fun.]
[Still, despite being a somewhat regular here, he's not the sort to go around buying services either. He prefers a chase after, all. Which is what has him sliding into a seat next to someone who appears alone -- whether they're a fellow patron or an employee.] Care for a drink? It's rather lonely to be here, drinking by one's self.

A. Mushrooms of Madness | Murkwell Hallow | OTA
[Catching a bit of respite under a giant 20-foot tall mushroom? Sounds safe. It's starting to rain overhead, though judging by the wind, it shouldn't last long -- which is a good thing, seeing as they'll need to leave the Hallow before sunset if they want to ride back on their mounts! For his part, Mephisto has been wearing a face mask this whole time -- though he'll pull it down once the rain starts.] Ahh, I can't say I've ever been so relieved to see a bit of rain! My allergies are acting up quite terribly around here.
[But this isn't just any mushroom. It's a mushroom of madness, prone to giving off spores that can cause mutual hallucinations powerful enough to render one unable to tell the difference between fiction and reality! ...but surely the rain means it shouldn't be as potent, right?]

Oh my, it seems you've been caught! [And just look at how worried Mephisto looks... or rather, how worried he doesn't look, inspecting the tree that has somehow captured up some poor unsuspecting travelor -- tearing them right off their mount, whch proceeded to flee off into the distance without them. Mephisto hops off his own mount, a beautiful white pegasus, and stands with his hand on his chin as he inspects the situation.]
Pray tell, are you familiar with this variety of creeping vine? You see, I'm afraid there's only one way to save you from it.

[But the local flora aren't the only thing they need to be worrying around here. Even as the sound of something rustling in the nearby bushes catches their attention.] Hmm, do you suppose it's friendly? Shall we go take a look?
[Will this be a good idea or a terrible one? Feel free to pick the location and/or the creature, and I'll RNG the rest!]

A moment later, she frowns softly.]
I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that crying is helping you remember me. How bad of a student am I?
no subject
Actually, I believe it's because you're the only human who has ever seen me cry.
[...he hasn't quite remembered just what he isn't supposed to tell Yona. But while his wording might sound weird, or even suspcious, it's not terribly incriminating yet.]
no subject
[That would probably make more sense if he had all of his memories intact.
But you know what doesn't really make sense? That. That thing he just said, right there. ...but, Yona's imagination is already working overtime coming up with an explanation for it. This planet is full of people from so many different worlds. Maybe he's cried in front of animals, or aliens, or... something else.
But she can remember the last time she saw him upset enough to cry.]
...that sounds kind of lonely. There are plenty of people here who will support you when you need to cry if you need it, you know... I'm just one of them.
no subject
[Unfortunately, the lack of proper memories means he's still not entirely sure how he's supposed to act around Yona. He only has a vague outline in his mind of who she is and what they've been through. Which means his brain-to-mouth filter is pretty much checked out right now.]
Oh, I find that hard to believe. I'm sure there are more people here who would rather see me dead than cry.
[Said with an entirely too casual shrug. There's even a hint of a smile! You'd think he were proud of this.]
no subject
[who does she have to fight for mephisto's honor
this was gonna be a gagtag but i'm keeping it]

I don't need to be told to know when I'm unwanted. But it hardly matters to me. I don't plan on dying anytime soon... nor crying for that matter.
[He says as if he has any control over when it happens, considering how it did the last two times... even now, he feels as though if he were to think too hard about the man named Jae-ha, he wouldn't be able to control himself.]
Hmm, but you know... I can still tell there's quite a bit I don't remember about you! But I feel like I've remembered enough to know...
no subject
[This face is 100% directed at himself.]
no subject
Yona can't really tell him he's wrong, because he's not.]
It's pretty likely you'll have to if you keep this up.
[He'll also probably have to apologize to himself for blowing his own cover if he become so obvious that even she can't make up something to justify the weird things that he doesn't know to keep himself from saying.]
no subject
[Assuming he hasn't already... hell, even that was kind of suspect, implying he has to be careful about what he says around Yona.]
no subject
[For one thing, what if he gets in some kind of trouble because he mouths off to someone he should remember that doesn't? What if he wanders off somewhere and his memory problems get worse and worse?]
Let's go home. Maybe that will make you remember something.
no subject
Still, I feel as though I remember the way. Allow me to-- [He raises a hand as if to snap his fingers and teleport them instantly, but then stops himself.]
Ah... right. I can't travel that far anymore. ["Anymore" he says, when he's probably treated his power limitations as though they were always the upper limits of what he can do.]
no subject
She catches that, makes note of it, and decides not to call him on it. He's always sort of had an answer for everything when she's asked him things in the past, but when she sits down and thinks about it, she really doesn't know a whole lot about him.
It's sneaky and a little underhanded, but this might be her best chance of getting to know him better.]
It's probably better to go on foot anyway. We might pass something familiar to you on the way.
no subject
[He'll have to be careful. But that might just be easier said than done.]
That's true... ah, I know! Why don't you tell me a bit about yourself? It might just be enough to trigger something.
no subject
[She feels the déjà vu and she does not like it, but that's not a reason to avoid doing it - especially when there is a chance that it might help jog his memory.]
But... okay. I came to this place around the same time Jae-Ha did... ah, I guess that doesn't really help much. It was... four months ago? Maybe a little more than that? You and I met not too long after. Your brother had cursed you to look like a dog and I thought you were a stray so I took you home.
[now let's find out if mephisto thinks his own cover stories are garbage]
no subject
[Thankfully, he's not given time to mull over it, because then she goes on and mentions his brother--]
My brother? Which one, are-- are they here?
no subject
[She can't help but think that he must be, though - given that he outed himself as a refugee that time in Wyver. Unless he'd been in dog form when he first woke up here on the space station...?
No, that doesn't work.]
But for him to have cursed you, he has to be around here somewhere...
no subject
[The name comes out before he has a chance to consider whether she'd recognize it. He would include him in this little charade? Either something was very wrong, or this person was indeed someone important he intended to keep by his side... no, that's impossible. No human could have grown that close to him in just a few months--]
[...]
I suppose I wouldn't remember whether he was here or not... but Amaimon is here, isn't he? I feel as though I mentioned him to you at some point.
no subject
She's heard that name before. She heard it when they were in the Undergowth, after they'd encountered that creature...
"Maybe I'll die, just like Amaimon..."
Was he actually dead? Or did he just fall asleep, like Jae-Ha did? She's never confirmed it for herself since she doesn't know what he looks it, but she can't help but think it must be the latter.
None of the other refugees have outright died, after all.]
...you've mentioned him. He fell asleep, like Jae-Ha did.
[She bites her lip.]
But he might wake up. They both might wake up.
no subject
[It's not a euphemism -- they're not dead. That's a given with Amaimon. The king of earth wouldn't die so easily. But Jae-ha... his name just keeps coming up, doesn't it?]
[But he doesn't want to follow the path that leads to unlocking those memories. Not yet... but why? He wants to know, and yet at the same time, he feels as though he shouldn't.]
Thinking on it, I believe Lucifer is asleep as well. Though I can't say whether he has been this whole time or not.
After all-- if he were awake, I'm certain I would have warned you to keep your distance from him.
no subject
[It wouldn't have been an easy thing to say, but she's been trying to say things she doesn't like lately - she can't get stronger if she averts her eyes from what's happening, after all. And she has to get stronger, now that both Jae-Ha and Hak are gone.]
And you never told me to try and avoid anyone in particular, so I think that's probably the case... but is your brother really that dangerous?
no subject
[He laughs at that -- a short, shallow laugh that sounds more bitter than anything. His feelings towards Lucifer right now are complex and confusing. Old memories of his past allegiance to him blend together with newer memories of their ongoing feud. At the end of the day, they're really not all that different, cut from the same cloth and committing the same sins... it's only where their philosophies differ that puts them at odds, Lucifer ultimately siding with demonkind whereas Mephisto found more merit in preserving humanity.]
I wonder why I've never told you... perhaps it's simply difficult for me to talk about. Or perhaps I was shielding you from it-- I'm not sure.
[A mix of all of the above, really. But while Mephisto rarely talked about himself, Yona rarely asked -- and even on the occassions when she did, it was simply easier to side-step questions, knowing that the simpler his story is, the easier it would be to maintain.]
[But right now, he's not thinking about that. His memories of Lucifer... he wants to remember them. To remember why he feels so much conflict in his heart when he hears that name.]
Lucifer... is kind. Gentle, and charismatic. He dislikes suffering, and finds the inherent inequalities that exist in the world to be unfair. He dreams of a world of peace-- at any cost.
And he would sacrifice the entire world for the sake of that dream. That is what makes him so dangerous.
no subject
Yona has trouble wrapping her mind around the idea of the pursuit of peace being dangerous. That was what her father had wanted, wasn't it? A peaceful kingdom, one without war -
She can't help but think that this Lucifer sounds very much like him, up until Mephisto mentions himm being willing to sacrifice the entire world for the sake of that goal.]
I don't understand...
[Her voice trails off.]
If you sacrifice the world you're trying to bring peace to... how is that accomplishing that dream at all?
no subject
[It's not exactly meant to make sense -- because it doesn't. Mephisto's own ideals stood at the polar opposite of Lucifer's. A world where different things exist together, struggling in their own ways to survive, was the very disorder that maintained balance in the world. Whether or not it was peaceful was irrelevant.]
[But of course, there's far more to it than that. Lucifer's desire to end suffering is a selfish one -- a desire to end his own suffering, and remove himself from the endless existence lived by all demon kings. Or at least, that's as much as Mephisto has been able to gleam.]
It's the logic of a madman. But unfortunately, he's a being of considerable power and influence... even I am no match against him.
no subject
[The logic of a madman, indeed. Yona looks troubled, but she's not really sure she knows how to articulate what bothers her most about this. Still, as long as Lucifer stays asleep, it's... probably okay, isn't it?
It's probably okay.]
That's why you got turned into a dog, isn't it? Because he's a more powerful magician than you are. [Harsh.] ...but, while he's asleep you can keep practicing and get even stronger, so he won't be able to use his magic on you like that anymore!
no subject
[Why does that bother him? She's just a human--]
...I think I understand now why I've never brought this up. Why don't we talk about something else? I don't like seeing that sad look on your face.
[...he doesn't? That's odd.]
