1. A BLESSED ENTOURAGE ( closed to [personal profile] wondie. )

[ every once in a while, it feels like her super power fails her. it's not that she isn't trying to sort out the situation in the group, but getting a feel for it is harder than she anticipated. Bosso's a skilled rambler, and while his wife seems happy to converse with him, she's not much for small talk with the hired guards. any other time and it might be understandable, but the woman who keeps to herself tends to look a little suspicious to someone trying to sort out a traitor.

Emma's noticed the kid, too, and Bosso's explanation of him only makes her more curious. is he angry at Bosso, or upset that he didn't take his advice? could that "bad crowd" have brought him further in than the old man realized?

they've stopped for a break by the time Emma opts to voice her concerns to Diana, and if there's anything that makes this mission a little easier, it's the fact that she's familiar with the woman. she sits down with her, watching Bosso and his wife catch their breath from a few feet away.

she tells herself that nothing could happen from here, but honestly? anything could happen. it always does.]
What do you think of all of this?

2. SHOOT LIKE A LADY. ( closed to [personal profile] revlon. )

[ somehow, the shooting range makes sense to her. it's something Emma knows how to do; something familiar in a world that typically isn't. she's been holding on to the bits and pieces of the life she knew, trying to piece them together in her efforts to start over here. it's not easy, and it's not without its setbacks, but she's trying.

meeting people like Peggy helps, because it reminds her that she's not the only one out of her element. she's sure the woman had her questions at first (since Emma had been less guarded about her life than she'd intended), but so far the strange life experiences have gone over well. Peggy, somehow, takes all of that in stride.

it makes sense to get in some target practice together, with both of them working for the guard. it also makes sense to keep their skills sharp in preparation for whatever might threaten them. it just feels like something might be coming, and as the tension between Wyver and Olympia grows, they don't have any choice but to be ready.

that doesn't mean they can't unite over something they're good at, though. Emma glances up at the sound of someone behind her, smirking when she catches sight of her new friend.]
I hope your day was more exciting than mine.

3. DROWN SOME SORROWS. ( open. )

[ Emma's starting to spend a little too much time in the Entertainment District. her assignment with the guard, officially, is to patrol the Theatre District. on slow days, she tends to get more of a sense of the area than its people, observing the local businesses and the routines that the performers have fallen into. it's what brings her back at night, once her shift is over and she's in need of a drink.

if she's going to drink alone, she'd rather do it out in the open than in the empty place she's been staying. the music and dancing around her provides some distraction from her drink, even if she doesn't care to join in. she's sitting with a half-empty glass and a few empty seats around her, but if anyone would like to join her, honestly, she wouldn't mind the company.]

4. YOUR OWN ADVENTURE. ( open. )

[ have an idea for a thread with Emma? leave a top level here or plot with me at [plurk.com profile] swanning and I'll get something started for us!]

( Diana is equally stumped, though her ability to sniff out traitors isn't as good as she'd like to claim. she decided the first vaguely evil seeming guy she heard of was Ares, after all, and she'd been big time wrong on that. perhaps it would have been wise to try and ask some questions with her lasso, it just seemed impossible to manage that without some knowledge that her target deserved it.

so she's stuck with waiting for the threat to show up, and being confident she can stop it when she can.
)

I find it odd that only now there is fear of trouble. This man has traveled only with his wife for so long. What could have aroused such a threat?

( it didn't seem like Bosso nor his wife were particularly concerned about it, even with a stranger lingering around. )

Every time I see you, you look so sad.

[ Now that most of the danger seems to be relatively under control, Maximus has braved going out. Not that he was ever all that concerned about his safety - he wanted to avoid the annoyance that would be born of mistaken identity. It's already happened to him a few times too many, and that was before any announcements about Flaying or Murder.

There's still much of Olympia for him to see and learn. That's what brings him here, mostly to observe everyone. It'd been easy to spot Emma.
]

What's the saying? Penny for your thoughts?

[ Peggy's lips quirk, the expression subtle but not nearly as much as it would be if she hadn't worn her red lipstick. She hasn't known Emma very long, nor does she know her very well, but she trusts her gut when it comes to first impressions and she rather likes the woman. It helps to bond over something like target practice. ]

I suppose it depends on your idea of "exciting." [ She steps up alongside her, surveying the metal targets spread out before them with a casual eye. She rather wishes they weren't stationary. ] Taking my horse around the outskirts on patrol was a little chilly, but I can't say I encountered anything more alarming than the snow-creature some children sculpted.

[ A pause. ]

It wasn't a snowman, I can tell you that much. God knows what it was meant to be. And how are you?
