January catch-all
Who: Clark Kent (
apricitous) & you!
What: Catch-All and some concern about the state of things
When: January
Where: largely Wyver
Warning(s): none so far
[ scouting for reporters | wyver | open]
[ While Clark's put up his message, he's also putting up a few flyers around town with the same basic content; while his focus is the refugee population, just for ease of communication, he's not opposed should any locals show any interest in helping. He obviously can't offer any money since it's not a business as of yet per se or anything but... if you see him, feel free to ask about it. ]
[deserters | outside of the city | open ]
[ There are things Clark can't do, but there are also things he can do, things that he can't not do when it comes right down to it... and one of those things is look out for people. Especially people who are desperately trying to avoid a conflict.
Clark goes there first, asks what they need, and at first he uses some of the funds from his dragon bounty, what was still there. It's after Christmas, so it was a little more scant than he'd like, but he makes up for it by eating less, sitting in the sun more; he'll cook portions for Jessica the same as usual but he can make do himself. Eventually, he does have to ask for money, but he'll run into the city and bring back just about anything. He's also taken to spending the occasional afternoon out there, though, patrolling from the sky or ground to take care of any natural threats that might be stalking the smaller settlements just in case... ]
[ home | wyver | open ]
[ If you happen to come by their house, you'll find Clark at one of three activities: attempting to write something on the current Wyver-Olympia conflict, trying to figure out how he can better siphon some of his paycheck into supplies, cooking the occasional bit of food, and working from a particular book given to him for Christmas as a present, muttering to himself in a strange language that your character almost certainly isn't familiar with. ]

Home
Currently, she had two bottles in her bag, one that wasn't 'just' alcohol, from what she'd been told. She had no idea what dragon flame was, but if it packed as much of a kick as it sounded like it did, she might start liking it. Coming into the house, she toed her boots off, shuffling over to the fridge to take down the jar and drop in half of her makings. She noticed the distinct lack of anything smelling marginally close to food, looking around and seeing Clark on the couch, a book in hand, looking much as he'd been looking every time she'd come home this week.]
Hey. I know the place is usually cleaner than it needs to be, but this looks untouched. You done anything all day other than read? Like, oh, I don't know... eat?
no subject
I made you up something for dinner yesterday. It's in the 'fridge.
no subject
Pretty sure I wasn't referencing you being my kitchen bitch -- though if you're in a mood to do anything in nothing but an apron, I'd be game to watch. I meant if you'd eaten, Clark-bar. I can feel your stomach rumbling from here. You've had your nose in that book for days.
no subject
[ Is he pointedly trying to distract her from the question with lavicious thoughts? A little. Not with much effort, mostly because he knows it won't work. Really, he's just trying to make sure she isn't worried. ]
And I spent some time outside today. The book is something I'm working on.
[ He shifts his expression to something curious. ]
What's the bottle?
no subject
I guess bacon splatters on your naked ass don't bug you that much. Fine, Chef Kent, cook in the nude. Amuse me with your culinary skills, if I can even pay attention to them. But you should probably eat something. I don't know much about alien physiology, but I'm pretty sure food needs to go in one end on a regular basis.
[She looked at the bottle, then pulled down a second glass.]
Their version of whiskey. S'not bad. Want some?

BYERLY
[ Clark didn't have any trouble getting to Olympia, and thankfully, it was a payday, which meant that he wouldn't look quite as much of a pauper as he could have in front of... well, an Emperor apparently.
That'd been something of a surprise. Not all that disturbing, but a little surprising. He wondered if Bruce knew him, realized he probably should have asked, then put the thought away for another time.
All the same, he's there early, about fifteen minutes early truth be told, because he likes being early, likes a little time to acclimate, to settle into the location, to figure out the ebb and flow of the sound and the volume to help him adjust to it.
He's dressed nicely, in a suit as a matter of fact, though nothing quite so nice as what he'd worn to the Christmas party. He'd done his hair, he'd made sure his glasses weren't smudged, and he'd actually found some excitement in tucking his little notebook into his breast pocket before flying towards the other city.
An interview. It felt like something settling into place. Even if nothing came of it, even if it didn't end up getting published, it was something to getting things...
To making it feel more like his life again. ]
no subject
As a result, though, when By strolls up to Clark, he quite nearly looks the part of an Emperor. No robes or crowns or scepters, no, but his suit is made of achingly fine cloth, and is tailored impeccably; his hair and beard are trimmed neatly. And he certainly walks with confidence, like he owns the rather shabby bar he's brought them to - although his unpleasantly ironic smile doesn't exactly have the weight of Imperial solemnity behind it.
The ironic smile becomes a full-blown smirk when he sees Clark's face. Without asking for confirmation of his identity, without so much as a how-do-you-do, he pronounces: ]
You're the one who snuck away with Mademoiselle Jones at the Winterfair ball.
no subject
Given that all he's being accused of is 'sneaking away', he doesn't really see much reason to pause or feel awkward. Instead, he lets out a chuckle before admitting so with a nod and a short, playful bow. ]
That was me, yes. She's my roommate. Also a dear friend.
I'm sorry to say, however, that as much as I learned over that conversation, we didn't exchange names.
[ He holds out a hand. ]
Clark Kent.
no subject
[ In spite of the grand garrulous introduction, By actually does take Clark's hand like a normal human being rather than insisting the man kiss the ring or something of the sort. His handshake is quick, short - Vor often prefer to bow. Legacy of a society where many a man has been struck down by a quick knife to the side in the middle of an otherwise civil greeting.
Ah, Barrayar. ]
Are you besotted, Monsieur Kent?

so... definitely not a deserter. ]
Hey!
[ it wouldn't hurt to get to know a few of the other do-gooders around here, now would it? ]
no subject
Yes?
[ He's in his 'Superman' look at the moment, what with lifting things Clark Kent should never be able to lift. ]
no subject
Do you need any help with those?
[ look, that's a lot of boxes for a human to lift. and while turians weren't exactly in the whole super strength game, they had decent reach. ]
no subject
[ He reaches over for the next of the large boxes, putting his arms around it before hoisting it up and settling his hands underneath. ]
It's good to see others here to help, though.

You're ready to move on to ju-jitsu, [ he says, rolling his shoulder as they finish off their aikido sparring. ] did you want to stay here, or try a place in Olympia?
no subject
[ He reaches over to grab some water, grabbing Bruce's to hold it out to him in turn.]
no subject
[ It means a retreat. He's going to need another identity to work this side — thankfully, he's gathered most of what he needs to know. The streets are known to him like the back of his hand. ]
[ Bruce accepts the bottle, pausing before he sips. ]
Alternately, we could make use of the station. I think you're ready to handle a different opponent.
no subject
[ All combat-related things he leaves to Bruce. Ask him about handling a natural disaster or a fire or something like that, he's actually got a lot of experience. Combat he leaves to Bruce and Diana. His heart's just not in it. ]
I'm worried, Bruce. This war looks almost inevitable. Not to mention that it's practically over nothing but old feuds and wounded pride.

[ Clark was there a little earlier, mostly because he had the ability to fly on his side, and he'd already gotten them a booth. He's been watching for someone with a camera, and as Prompto walks in, he raises a hand. Over here! ]
Thank you for coming.
no subject
Yeah, no prob! Didn't keep you waiting long, did I?
no subject
Not at all. Can I get you anything?
no subject

YORUICHI
thanks again for setting this up!
Even with the door closed, she can sniff the faint smell of food on the stove. Damn, he really wasn't lying about being a good cook. ]
no subject
I hope you're hungry. I had good luck at the harbor.
no subject
I'm always hungry.
[ Not untrue; like any good thermodynamics principle, output must equal input, and maintenance of reiatsu takes a heavy toll. She follows his gesture and saunters inside, taking in the surroundings with a quick scan. ]
Nice place. [ Only a little irony, given how she doesn't even have a true place of her own. ] Did you catch the fish yourself?
